Product Example - Absorbent Insert for a Humidifier 

The Brief
To develop and manufacture an absorbent insert for a wall mounted humidifier. It must have mounting holes accuratley placed. It must not become mouldy and the mounting strip must not become wet..  
Design a product to meet this criteria
  • Slow wicking absorbent material required which must be quite stiff
  • Mold inhibitor needed
  • The top strip must have two 8mm holes punch at 400mm centres accurate to +/- 0.5mm
  • The top mounting strip must not become wet
Solution
  • Wet Laid absorbent material used which has inherent stiffness
  • Impregnated with a neutral mold inhibitor during manufacturing
  • Auto aligned to punch 2 holes to an accuracy of +/- 0.2mm
  • Recessed groove and hot wax applied to impregnate the material to produce a water tight barrier to ensure no water will wick up past this line
